There was no sign of disease . . . or the Queen for that matter. But Queens are rarely seen, as they like to hide.
Lowering my face close to the bees, I took a deep breath, trying to sniff out any bad odors, which signal something foul. Nothing amiss.
Before closing the hive, I put patties of bee pollen on top of the nine frames as a little added precaution in case the bees ran out of food during the winter.
