After this crisis, notwithstanding the various convulsions both of foreign and domestic war with which Scotland was harrassed, there oc- curs no instance of the regalia of the kingdom hav- 11 ing been in possession of an enemy or usurper ; and it may therefore be conjectured that the present CROWN remained the same and unaltered since the days of Bruce, until the example of other sovereign princes induced James V.
