METHOD. 1. Through any point of the given line draw a line parallel to the elements PLANE TANGENT TO CYLINDER 77 of the cylinder. 2. Determine the traces of the plane of these two lines. 3. Draw the traces of the tangent plane parallel to the traces of the auxiliary plane (Art. 18, page 12), one of the traces being tangent to the base of the cylinder. There may be two tan- gent planes.
