After July 1, 1997, all members with five years of membership service may buy additional service.
TRS Current members of JRS may choose to remain with present benefits or to get the GABA. Retirement for a member choosing GABA will be based on Final Average Salary (FAS) rather than a sitting judge's current salary. FAS will be the average of the highest pay for any 36 consecutive months of service. The same will apply to a disability in the line of duty.
The death payment for members choosing Op...tion 1 but not choosing GABA will change. For those not choosing GABA, it will be the present value of the benefit at retirement less benefits paid. For a member choosing GABA, it will be the cash value of the member's account less benefits paid. All judges hired after July 1, 1997 will be under GABA.
HPORS Current members of HPORS may choose the present benefits or the GABA. Members who choose GABA and buy military service must pay the actuarial cost. Only members who choose not to receive GABA may receive supplemental and minimum monthly benefits.
