It is commonly seen in cases of long-standing conjunctivitis with irritating secretions, for instance, in chronic conjunctivitis and in some of the forms of granular lids. Treatment. — ^After an injury, or during the course of a local disease, likely to result in one of these complications, scrupulous care must be exercised to avoid it. Trichiasis ; Distichiasis. — Trichiasis is that affection in which the lashes are misplaced and turn inward against the eyeball; distichiasis is that condition in which incurved rows of supplementary cilia are developed from the intermarginal part, close to the opening of the tarsal glands. The most usual causes of trichiasis are chronic inflamma- tions of the lid-borders — blepharitis and granular conjunc- tivitis.
