Muscular, thermal, and stereognostic sensibility are all to some degree represented in the cortex of the parietal region, and alterations in them all have been observed as the result of growths. The signs pecuUar to a tumour of the parietal region are, therefore, modified sensations of touch, pain, temperature, and of form; but to these, others are usually added through the encroach- ment of the tumour on (he parts aroimd. Thus, if it extends forwards, there will be motor symptoms ; if backward...s, the functions of the angular g)TUS and occipital lobe will be impaired ; while if the disease spreads beneath the cortex, it may affect the motor fibres as they pass through the corona radiata. Convulsions associated with tumours of the parietal lobes are usually preceded by sensory warnings.
When the tumour encroaches on the angular gyrus there may be a concentric contraction of both fields of vision, but greatest on tlie side opposite the tumour (crossed amblyopia). Visual aphasia (word-bUndness) may result from tumours of this region when they are situated on the left side.
