Should a disaster destroy the ISD computer center. Department of Revenue data files might also be destroyed. Off-site backup of critical data files is essential to reduce the chance that all copies of a data file are destroyed.
ISD provides backup for files stored on magnetic disk, but discourages agencies from relying on ISD backup. Since files from many agencies are included on the ISD backup, the department would have a difficult time taking the tapes to a remote location for processing.
