Again, take what Professor Royce calls ' the general- ized habit of fickleness '. Common experience teaches us that no one is fickle in all directions. The expression can therefore only mean that the person is fickle in cer- tain and perhaps numerous departments of life ; that many situations apparently different give rise to the same fickle responses.
