... monia water, 1 dram ; distilled water, 3 drams: mix. In a sepa rate vessel dissolve 24 grains of oxalic acid in 1 ounce of distil- led water, and add to it 12 drams of alcohol of 95. Mix the two solutions. This gives a dark red stain that is exceedingly permanent, and which requires no fixation.
5. Czokofs Carmine. Dissolve in 6 ounces of distilled water, 8 grains of burnt alum, and in the solution triturate thor oughly 50 grains of cochineal. Boil for a half hour in the water bath ; remove, filter and add distilled water sufficient to bring the solution up to 6 ounces.
