About loo years after the discovery of America the settlement of the eastern coast of North America began, which formed the foundation of the United States. First the London commercial ■company sent colonists to Virginia who founded Jamestown (1607 A. D.) The colony was divided into several counties, and the people were allowed to elect two representatives from each county to a colonial assembly (1619 A. D.) In the same year the first representative assembly ever convened in America was held at Jamestown.
