" Aziel covered his eyes with his hand, and thought a while; then heanswered:-- "Be it as you will, friend. I go, but I go broken-hearted. " CHAPTER XI METEM SELLS IMAGES Upon reaching the palace, Aziel went to the apartments of Issachar. Fin...ding no keeper at the door, he entered, to discover the old priestkneeling in prayer at the window, which faced towards Jerusalem. Soabsorbed was he in his devotions that it was not until he had ended themand risen that Issachar saw Aziel standing in the chamber.
"Behold, an answer to my prayer, " he said. "My son, they told methat some fresh danger had overtaken you, though none knew its issue. Therefore it was that I prayed, and now I see you unharmed. " And takinghim in his arms, he embraced him.

The Hiram in this story could NOT be the same Hiram of David and Solomon's time because the Prince was Solomon's grandson, but the SECOND Hiram did not live until 250 years later.

The merchant trusted by Hiram, even if it were to be the same Hiram, would then be at least 80-90 years old and well past undertaking any kind of a 1500 mile 8 month journey in very adverse conditions. And, surely such a large caravan, with at least 6-700 men, could, from past experience alone, have been prepared against all kinds of attacks etc. Just a few thoughts,.

Aziel just discovered Issachar kneeling in prayer when he wenrt to look for him' Haggard a very great storyteller did not know that the Jewish G-D is a personal one and man speaks directly to his G-D. But not kneeling. Only asingle time each year on their Great fast Day did the High Priest go into the Temple Holy of Holies and prostrate himself flat on the ground. No other Jew ever kneeled in prayer but stood. To this day that practice had prevailed. Since Haggard was writing about a Jewish Character he should have consulted a learned Jew, at least for this part.

And I meant o add that in such a large dity as Zimbabwe, there seems nothing the caravan brought -mostly trumpery junk available in any market, -could not have been manufactured right there in Zimbabwe.....except for the Tyrian cloth of purple. But this cloth, I always understood was not sold in any mark being reserved for Royalty ONLY.. as the shellfish from which the purple dye was obtained were scarce
