In the next memorial (whether they were spoken by himself from his place we do not know) he insists upon some of the same topics, but mainly upon the preservation of the liberties of the people, and upon the French in prefer- ence to the English alliance ; the latter being incompat- ible, as he said, with the bond between England and Hanover, which had formerly belonged to Sweden.
