In 1871 appeared Part III of the same, on thePronunciation of the fourteenth and sixteenth centuries. Part IV wasthen planned to include the Pronunciation of the seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth centuries, including the Phonology of theDialects; and for this purpose it was necessary to gain particularssuch as could hardly be accomplished without special research.
