Governor haveing received a letter thus directed. To the Eight Worshippfull the Deputy, Assistants and ffellowshipp of Merchants Adventurers of England resident in Newcastle, called a court of Assistants, the 11 of this instant May to consyder thereof, and in regard it was not directed to the Governor as hath antiently beene accustomed, and conceiveing by the scale it had come from the Company ak Hamburgh or Dortdrecht, ordered that it should be sent Digitized by V^OOQ IC 99 by the first post u...nopenned with a cover upon it, to the Company or Merchants Adventurers in London, which was sent accordingly. The cover contained as followeth : — Right Worshippfull Sir and Sirs, This inclosed came to our hands last post, but there being noe person amongst us knowne by that appellation, and supposeing it may be sent either from the Company resideing at Hamburgh or Dort- drecht, conceived it expedient by this cover (unopened) to addresse it to you. We could heartilye wish that all ocasions of differance betwixt us were friendly composed, and know no more probable way to effect it then by suffering every member to inioy their just rights and priviledges (the motto of your scale importing noe lesse) and more is not desyred by them who are Your loveing brethren and ffriends the Governor, &c, Newcastle, May the IV^ 1663.
