Spelled out, though, the thought looked foolish: for one thing, Rathe had been clear from the start on what it was he didn’t like about the Guard, and Eslingen had learned enough about the city’s politics even in the short time he’d been here to believe Rathe was speaking the exact truth about the problems it was likely to cause the points.
