Two weeks ago Ruth had driven Virgil to the Columbus airport for his flight to Boston. Joanna paid for it all. It was almost as expensive to fly a dog as it was to fly yourself.
Ruth had thought about saying no, forget it, Virgil stays with me, but she hadn’t. She knew that Virgil had been waiting for the ocean.
