They were mainly dependents - it was a point of honour for the marine dependents to attend each graduation parade - although there were a handful of retired marines amongst them. There were no auxiliaries, as far as I knew; they rarely cared to attend graduation ceremonies. They were reminders of what they’d been unable to achieve. Very few people made a fuss about it.
