Oldham Chambers, is to be seen in the Exhibition. It is circular .in form, the water being admitted through a pipe passing round the inside of the vase about two inches under water ; this pipe is pierced with holes at an angle of 45 degrees, the pressure of water gives a centrifugal motion to the current, thus causing the young fish to " head on " to the stream. As soon as the young fish have lost their um- bilical sac, they are placed in the vase and fed with finely chopped liver, the peculiar... motion of the water causes the food to be held in suspension longer than with most other forms of feeding apparatus. The overflow passes through perforated zinc inserted in the bottom part of a tube, fixed in the centre of the vase to prevent a vortex, inside which is a standing waste-pipe, and, by lifting up the latter, the vase can be cleaned out FISH CULTURE. 55 in the space of two minutes, without endangering the lives of the fish, as they are all protected by thd perforated zinc. Another feature of great importance is the small amount of water consumed by the apparatus ; a stream not larger than a pencil is sufficient to keep 10,000 fry alive in a vase two feet diameter for several months.
