" Fannin had sent some of his men to help King, who was a few miles away. Most of King's men were killed. Some got away by reaching the woods and swimming the river. They made their way, hiding by day and moving on by night. The next morning Houston sent Fannin word to blow up the fort and leave the place, and to bring away as many guns as he could, and sink the rest in the river. He at once made ready to obey. The guns were buried.
