What reading level is Fresnel And His Followers a Criticism to Which Are Appended Outlines of Theo book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:

Airy may have had in view other investigations than those which I have particularized. If he will take the trouble to specify any such, I will undertake to give them my best consideration and to publish my opinion concerning them, whether favourable or unfavourable ; in the latter case supporting my views by argument. But in the mean time I would suggest that, of the cases instanced above, some have been distinctly sanctioned by Mr. Airy himself, and that so lately as the year 1842 ; and that a...s his eulogy extends to the whole class of the " mechanical theories, " the above must be considered as participating in it. It is a grave charge to make, but until Mr. Airy assures us to the contrary, we must conclude that, at the time of writing the above paragraph, after fair warning, he deliberately entertained the opinion that those unparalleled investigations were of impor- tance " as regards the progress of intellect. " Liverpool, November 25, 1846, PROFESSOR CHALLIS'S THEORY OF LUMINOUS RAYS.
