It was a long but interesting and picturesque journey. We left Renescure about five in the morning, and skirt- ing the steep hill on which lies the town of Cassel, we halted for "dinners" just beyond Steenvorde. We reached Proven about six in the evening, and were directed to Privett Camp, a mile or so out of the town. We were surprised, on arriving, to find that the Battalion had not yet come in. It did not, in fact, reacli camp till long after dark, and took almost as long stumbling over the ...muddy track which led out to the camp from Proven, as it had over the whole preceding distance. We remained under canvas at Privett Camp for 107 108 FROM CLOISTER TO CAMP five days. The other Battalions were all in the neighbourhood, and I used on Sunday the fine spacious church at Proven which was central for them all. On Wednesday, 24th October, we moved to Prattle Camp on the other side of Proven, and here I was fortunate enough to find a chapel in a Belgian hospital near by, which proved most useful for Mass and Confessions.
