The Peach Borer (^^geria exitiosa). — This is a widespread and most destructive pest. The steel blue female moth, which is about an inch in length, deposits her eggs singly, on the bark of the tree at the surface of the ground. The larva soon hatches and works downward in the bark of the root, causing a copious exuding of gum mingled with worm castings. The grub is of a whitish yellow color, and over a half inch in length when mature.
