Populous and opulent cities, thousands of miles from each other, celebrate these obsequies with all that can engage the imagination, and impress the heart. Even in a retired village, which makes no pretensions to parade, and where there is nothing of magnificence, save the sombre pomp of nature herself, the citizens of Ballston Spa, without distinction of party ; the Board of Supervisors representing every town in the County of Saratoga ; the members of the Ballston Institute, coming from different sections of the State ; the students of the Na- tional Law School, representing more than half the States of the Union ; have assembled under these sable hangings, to join in the sublime lament which is now being sung by the nation.
