Air. Shi]tpen was elected a member of the American Philosophical Society in 1786, and in 17SS received the ]ionorary degree of A. M. from the College of Xew Jersey.
He died February 4, 1798. His widow afterwards married for the third time, General George Izard, of South Carolina, and died in Philadelphia, June 24. 1826, aged 52 years. She is buried in St. Peter's churchyard. Mr. Shippeu's issue; — 14.
