Henry Pepys was educated at Harrow School, and at St. John's College, Cambridge, where he took his B.A. degree in 1804, and was elected Fellow of his College the year following. In 1807 he was ordained in holy orders, and in 1822, after many years' work as Tutor of his College, he took the College living of Moreton, Chipping Ongar. In 1826 he was appointed Prebendary of Wells. In 1840 he was elevated to the Bishopric of Sodor and Man, and in 1841 translated to the See of Worcester. Bishop Pepys... was a Liberal in poHtics, and voted for the Endowment of Maynooth, the Repeal of the Corn Laws and Navigation Laws, in favour of the Jews' Disabilities Bill, and for the Divorce Bill. He married, at St. Marylebone Church, January 27th, 1824, Maria, daughter of the Right Hon. John Sulivan — the eldest son of which marriage, Philip Henry, born 1824, became Registrar in the Court of Bankruptcy, and died 1886. Bishop Pepys died at Hartlebury Castle, near Worcester, 13th No- vember, i860, leaving his widow, two sons, and two daughters.
