The following prisoners of war. received and delivered at Rough and Eeady, Georgia, the 19th, 22d, 28th, and 30th days of September, 1864, in pursuance of an agreement between Majur General W. T. Sherman, U. S. Army, and General Hood, are declared duly ex- changed : United States prisoners received — 146 commissioned officers. 212 non-commissioned officers. 770 privates. By order of the Secketart of Wae: E. D. TOWNSEND, Assistant Adjutant General, GENERAL ORDERS, ^ WAR DEPARTMENT, L Adjutant General's Office, No. 296. J Washington, Decemher 2, 1864. Transportation of Stores and Books for Frcedmen. The provisions of General Orders, Nos. 70 and 244, from this office, are hereby extended so as to embrace all Military Divisions and Departments ; and accordingly all stores and school-books turned over to the officers of the Quartermaster's Department by the United States Commission for the rdief of the national Freedmen, with the approval of the immediate next military commander, who will satisfy himself that the said stores and school-books are such as are necessary for the sub- sistence and comfort or instruction of the Freedmen, will be received and transported as public stores consigned to the Quartermaster at the post for which they are destined, by whom they will, after examina- tion and approval by the post commander or provost marshal, he turned over to the duly authorized agents of said Commission for dis- tribution to the Freedmen.
