He plays Schiller as the old court theatre never saw him, opening up before the people the whole fervor of Schiller's revolutionary ardor and letting the pathos of his ex- hortation to national restraint make its irresistible appeal. He has not yet had time to introduce his own ideas of Faust, but of the nineteenth century classics, particularly those of Hebbel and Kleist, he has given excellent productions.
