On the third day of the eruption he died, namely, the day he was reported to Station G. The deceased had also suffered from articular pains. He was the owner of a stable where horses and vehicles were kept for hire. Furthermore, he lost several of his horses recently from glanders. Autopsy (about nine hours after death). The body appears quite emaciated. A papulo-vesicular eruption is scattered over the skin surface (see PL IV, fi...g. 1). These lesions are most numerous on the face, back of the trunk and upper arms, buttocks and back 24877 2 of the upper part of the thighs, and more scattered over the chest and the abdomen. They are not distributed regularly, but are grouped with intervening areas of comparatively free skin, and vary in size -from 2 to 3 and 6 to 8 millimeters in diameter. The smaller ones appear as shotty papules, while the larger ones are distinctly vesicular. Several of these vesicles show depressed areas, which give them the appearance of being umbilicated, although more commonly their surfaces appear wrinkled.
