To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:

Southwest corner. A motel off the highway. Our room overlooks the parking lot, and if I peek out from behind the stiff beige curtains, I can see people milling about under the fluorescent lights. It’s the kind of place where people mill about. I have the emotional bends again. Too much has happened, and so fast, and now I am in southwest Pennsylvania, and my husband is enjoying a defiant sleep amid the little packets of chips and candies he bought from the vending machine down the hall. Dinner. ...He is angry at me for not being a good sport. I thought I was putting up a convincing front – hurray, a new adventure! – but I guess not.
Now that I look back, it was like we were waiting for something to happen. Like Nick and I were sitting under a giant soundproof, windproof jar, and then the jar fell over and – there was something to do.
Two weeks ago, we are in our usual unemployed state: partly dressed, thick with boredom, getting ready to eat a silent breakfast that we’ll stretch over the reading of the newspaper in its entirety.

This is honestly such a good book. Once you understand whats happening it does get a little easy to predict what will happen, but not so much that it's boring to read. One of the best I've read in a while.

It took me about 6 months to get through this book, I found it to be extremely boring, the last 100 or so pages were good and kept me on the edge. I would not recommend this book to anyone who needs a book to get there attention from the beginning. The movie however, I found was very good. A lot better than the book.

Okay this book came across me after I watched the movie and I knew it was a book when the movie came out. The only issue I have with this book is that it is almost just like the movie because the movie was as drawn out like a novel. The movie was interesting enough to hold my attention but I am not sure I can say the same as the book because once I put it down that is it. The plot is good the characters especially Amy I do not like how she got away with so much. Although I don't feel so bad for the husband I have no sympathy for much of the characters.

2.5 stars. Sorry, not a fan. While I think the author did a good job creating complex characters, I do not like her writing style and found the story boring and predictable. In all honesty, I skimmed most of the book because I wasn't interested and just wanted to finish it. The only point I did become interested was when Diary Amy became Real Amy. Then I was kind of rooting for the bad guy to win, but then it got boring again. However, I laid in bed trying to figure out where I've read "Amy" before. It finally came to me--Zenia in Atwood's The Robber Bride. Much better book in my opinion.
