These, which will be treated of hereafter, are considered, by M. The abdominal portion of the umbilical cord presented all the characters which I have frequently witnessed in children that had survived their birth some hours. The skin, covering it for about half an inch from its abdominal insertion, was smooth, and per- fectly continuous with that of the abdomen.
