F. Jackson sailed from England, in the Windward for a North-polar voyage by the most promising of all land routes. Landing his dogfe, horses, houses, equipments, and supplies at a suitable point on Franz Josef Land, he was to send back his ship that autumn. Jackson was to prosecute his explorations to the northward at his leisure, and have his vessel return at an appointed time.
