INTERCOMMUNICATING SYSTEMS.
In installations where the total number of instruments does not exceed a dozen or so, there is not sufficient business to warrant the employment of a central- station operator, and yet it is necessary that any one of the dozen stations should be able to call any other one at will, especially when all the instruments are in one building. To supply this need intercommunicating systems have been devised. In the usual type of intercommunicating systems there are as m
...any line wires as instruments, plus one common return. All of these wires are connected to every instrument in the system, and the calling of any desired station from any other is done by a selective method of using the circuits.
ERICSSON TELEPHONE COMPANY.
One such system is illustrated in Fig. 48, and is made by the Ericsson Telephone Company. In this plate four sets of instru- ments are shown, two wall and two desk sets, together with the 56 corresponding portion of the twelve circuits. It will be observed that each set is provided with a twelve-point switch, one point for every line circuit, and each set, of course, has one particular number, which is called the home number.
