" An excellent argument, certainly, if it were true.
The following may be quoted as the average prices in Melbourne, in March, 1877, of the chief articles of consumption for the year 1876--7. The cost of groceries, wines, spirits, &c. , is generally somewhat higher, and of agricultural and grazing produce somewhat lower, in country districts : Agricultural Produce Wheat, per bushel, 5s.
