THE AMERICAN INDIAN IN FRANCE Nine Thousand Indians Fight True to Their Traditions THE American Indian may have lacked finish as a soldier, but he was certainly a success as a scout and as a fighter in a small group. The New York Evening Sun admits that from the standpoint of discipline Indians were not the best soldiers. " "He was over the top four times, and knows positively that he killed at least one German, who opposed hmi durmg a trench-raid. He led a party over the top in a raid one night at midnight, and, guiding them along over the shell- torn terrain, was among the Germans before the latter knew of the foe's presence.
