The genealogy of the husbands of the Countess Lucia and their descen- dants shows some confusion in dates, as recorded in Dugdale's "Monas- ticon," which has been utilized by the manufacturers of Norman pedigrees to prove that " the whole story of Lucia, daughter of Earl Alfgar, is a myth !" Inaccuracy in dates is characteristic of most ancient documents and fair proof of their genuine origin. Absolute proof of the relationship here given will be found in the Record Office Deeds, 69 S.D., 69a S.D., in the Appendix to 35th Report of the Deputy Keeper of the Public Records.
