What reading level is Highways And Byways in Devon And Cornwall book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:

For these are the old packmen's tracks, and the hollow paths are those which commerce trod out for itself when the face of the whole country was trackless, and the beaten highways were as few as they now are on an African veldt Now as it is perfectly idle to speculate when the ancient inhabitants of Britain began to hold regular communications with each other, so it is futile to attempt to guess how many centuries ago that stream of traffic began to flow along these ancient courses which has on
...ly ceased in the memory of living men. We can but look at the old tracks with interest such as we feel for all places which are soaked in bygone memories; and indeed, sometimes, amid the silence of the moor, these grassy winding lanes, just wide enough for mules to pass along in single file, strike us as a little ghostly. We find ourselves at the fall of evening following them with our eyes in the growing dusk, and every moment we fancy we hear the crack of the packman's whip, or the jangling of the bells, or round some corner see the patient, plodding mules come snuffing with their cumbrous saddles and their high-piled burdens, pricking their ears and opening their wide eyes in wonder at the sight of a traveller on the lonely moor.
