Then he looked up at the dark frowning faces of his mother'sbrothers, and gurgled with laughter, showing the fascinating spectacleof his two front teeth.... He sustained the slight with anadmirable cheerfulness, and babbled and sputtered and flounced aboutwith his hands. He grew pinker in the generous firelight, and he lookedvery fat as he sat in a heap on the floor. He seemed to have threadstightly tied about his bolster-shaped limbs in places where elder peopleprefer joints--in his ankles and wrists and elbows--for his arms werebare, and although his frock of pink calico hung decorously high on oneshoulder, it drooped quite off from the other, showing a sturdy chest.
