1. Epithelium ; this is stratified, the inner cells being columnar, nucleated, and gradually passing to the flattened superficial ones.
2. Anterior hyaline layer, clear with no striations.
3. Corneal substance; formed by lamellse of fibrous tis- sue placed at right angles in alternate layers, so appearing in longitudinal and transverse sections ; between these layers are the well stained corneal corpuscles, appearing in rows.
