As to methods of instruction — each Teacher was inde- pendent in her own Department ; and sustained, to her associates and the Institution, relations similar to those of a Professor in our colleges. The Principal, with his family, resided in the Seminary building ; conducted reli- gious exercises ; as Pastor of the Church, preached on the Sabbath, in the Chapel ; shared with the Teachers in the government of the School, also in deciding upon the course of study, text-books, etc.
