He is spoken of as a good man and faithful preacher. April 28, 1824, Mr. Cummings was ordained over the church in Stratham, where he labored for eleven years with success, 42 persons uniting with the church. For thirteen years, from 1843 to 1856, he was pastor of the church at Hills- boro Bridge. In 1856, he removed to Exeter, where he continued without charge till his death, which occurred June 20, 1866, in the seventy-third year of his age. He was a successful and useful man. Rev. Stephen Far...ley. After Mr. Cummings. Rev. Stephen Farley taught the Academy and supplied the pulpit for seven or eight years. He was a native of HoUis and a graduate of Dartmouth in 1 804. He was a kind and gentlemanly man and a pop- ular preacher. From 1806 to 1818 he was pastor of the church in Claremont, where the meeting-house was en- larged to accommodate the audience. During the twelve years of his ministry in that place, 94 persons were re- ceived into the church, 49 of whom were received during an extensive revival in 18 16, which was commenced and carried on mainly by others.
