He ma promoted to a lieutenancy in the r^roent on the 20th of March, 1794 ; was placed on half-pay in January, 1795, and in December, 1797, he was gazetted to a company in the forty-second royal Highland regiment. In June, 1799, he was promoted to the... rank of nuyor in the Argyle Fencibles, and was removed to the ninety- fourth regimenton the 7thof April, 1802. He was promoted to the rank of lieut.-colonel in the ninety-fourth reg^eDt, on the 27th of September, 1804. On the 4th of June, 1813, he received the brevet rank of colonel; and on the I2th of August, 1819, he was advanced to the rank of major-geoemL On the 3rd of December, 1822, His Majesty King Geoi^ the Fourth nominated him a Knight Commander of the most honourable Order of the Bath, and King William the Fourth conferred on him the colonelcy of the ninety-fourth r^ment on the 13th of April, 1831, from which he was removed to the SETENTT-TOcaTB regiment on the 12th of December, 1834.
