D. , spoke in behalf of the Baptists. Rev. R. I). Harper, D. D. , voiced the sympathy of the Presbyterians ; and Rev. R. M. Hatfield, D. I). , extended the greetings of the Methodists. In January 1888, just in the beginning of the series of meetings conducted by Rev. B. Fay Mills, Dr. Danforth's health gave way ; and a joint committee of the Church and Society was chosen to provide 16 for the supply of the pulpit. On his re- signation in January 1889 this committee was authorized to select and ...recommend to the church a suitable person for per- manent pastor. And it was voted as the sense of the church that the pulpit should not be open for the hearing of candinates.
