Philemon Willis the ancestor of Peter AVillis Avbo was an officer in the War of 1812, deeded very earl}^ the site of the present M. E. Church. William Gootee, one of the first inhabitants of the new villao*e, kep...t a store and included the postoffice to which for miles around the ])eople would come once a week to ^^et their mail if any tliere be and do their shoppin, ";. As Snow Hill grew and the cpiantity of mail in- creased, frequent delays in the service were made be- cause of their being another Snow Hill in Maryland, a much older and larger village.
