To an inquiry whether he would desert his aUies at such a conjuncture, the Archduke Albert could hardly reply otherwise than he did He should much prefer, he said, a general pacification ; but if the pro- ceedings of Mansfeld made war necessary, he could not leave the Duke of Bavaria to be crushed.
