There are but few indications of early efforts for the education of children ; and I can find no evi- dence of the formation of a church of any denomination, in Free- town or Tiverton, for more than half a century after they were in- corporated ; nor is there any certain evidence that the people were favored with a stated ministry, for any length of time, during that long period.
