The laces of Chantilly have had to contend wi1|l tihose of Calvados, especially with the &brics of Bayeux ; but though the work is similar, iiiose of Chantilly maintain their ancient reputation.... The fineness of the reseau and the dose workmaaxship of the flowers give tibiem a natural firmness much valued by connoisseurs. In 1851 there were fiK)m 8,000 to 9,000 lace-makers in the district of Caiantilly. They only make the extra fine lace.
