On Saturday, April 4, 1835, the electors of the territory chose delegates to a constitutional convention which met at Detroit on the second Monday in May. The action of the authorities of Ohio was creating much hostile feeling. It was very apparent that the people of Michigan would not consent to the extension of Ohio's limits without a contest. That a few thousand people of a territory, Avith a Governor Just Out of His Teens, should presume to question the right of a great state with a "millio...n of free- men," as her governor put it in a proclamation, seemed very galling to Ohio statesmen.
