He remained in the cabinet, even under President Adams, until a breach caused him to resign in 1800. From this time forth he took no part in public life. He died May 3, 1816, in the sixty-third year of his age. * DANIEL OK ST. THOMAS JENIFER. DANIEL OF ST. THOMAS JENIFER was born in Maryland about 1733. He received a liberal education, and was prominent in Maryla...nd politics before the Revolution. In 1750 he was one of the commissioners from his native State to settle the boundary between Maryland and Pennsylvania, and in 1773 was a member of the Proprietary Council under Governor Eden. Notwith- standing his affiliations with the representatives of the royal gov- ernment, his sympathies were enlisted in the cause of the colonies, and he was in constant correspondence with its most ardent sup- porters. In November, 1776, he was appointed by the constitu- tional convention, the first held in Maryland, a- member of the Council of Safety, of which body he was chosen president, and in 1778 was elected to the Continental Congress.
