In 1803 he matriculated in Glasgow College, where he was a fellow-student of Cooke. At the close of his curriculum he was licensed by the Presbytery of Connor, and next year was called to Broughshane. Here the poll for him was taken on a Sabbath, and the voting did not terminate till ten o'clock on the night of the sacred day. This is the last Sabbath poll on record. D. , p. 107. 3 Dr. Montgomery was born at a place called Boltnaconnell, in the parish of Killead, on i6th January, 1788. In his boyhood he had for one of his teachers the Rev. Isaac Patton, the first Seceding minister who settled in Ireland, and he often spoke of the lessons he learned from him 'in his little old parlour, where he sat for upwards of fifty years. ' He entered Glasgow College in 1804, was hcensed by the Templepatrick Presbytery in 1809, and in the same year was ordained minister of Dunmurry— the charge which he held till his death.
