The Second Church, as it was now known, was dedicated June 26th, 1870, by Dr. J. W. Reid of Chicago, at that time editor of the N'orthwestern Christian Advocate. But ...the charge was left to be supplied at the Conference in the spring, and was without a preacher regularly to fill the pulpit. Shortly after the dedication Geo. W. De La Matyr, a transfer from Wisconsin, was appointed, and, till the next spring served as pastor. The presid- ing elder, A. G. White, reports this charge as having "overcome much opposition and grown into considerable importance. " In the statistics forty members are reported, and a Sunday-school with twelve teachers and one hundred and twenty- five scholars.
